New Year's Memories

Did your family have any New Year’s traditions? How was the New Year celebrated during your childhood? Have you kept these traditions in the present day?!

I don't remember our family having any New Year traditions.  Just knew I had to go back to school a few days later.  My parent's sometimes went out to a party with their friends, we had a sitter.

My parents divorced when I was a teenager, so don't remember mom going to any parties.  Maybe at her work.  We had moved to California a few years before they divorced, my dad went back to Chicago, so I don't know how my dad celebrated the new year.

When we were dating my husband and I got together with some of our friends, too small to be called a party.  We made a really good dinner and had champagne.  Toasted in the new year and shared a kiss.

When my girls were little, we'd celebrate new year's with horns and noise makers.  While the girls weren't looking, I'd move the hands of the clock forward.  They then could say they stayed up until "midnight."

  1. Family traditions are part of your heritage. If you don't know of any, you can always start some yourself.
